MoM, A Rock Concert Musical
I’ve been a member of the cast of MoM since her first reading back in 08. The history goes like this. Richard Caliban tracked me down on MySpace when he needed a new member for his show Les Funky Bitches Fantastique (and they truly are!) I auditioned but was too damn old, so RC made me my own show (in my mind). Guy wanted to work with me that bad. (again, in my mind.) Actually what really happened next was I liked the Funky Bitches so much I invited then to be part of the Pillowfight Theatre Festival, because they certainly are Hot Chicks of Substance, as were Lesley Gore, Gretchen Cryer, Evelyn Page, Alice Barden and the rest of the 16 ladies that partook with their solo shows. Les Funky Bitches were the only project in the festival with a male author. Old RC. (But he’s girly enough, trust me.) Right after the festival closed Richard invited me to be in his reading for MoM, along with 4 other amazing women, Taylor Barton, Joy from Momapalooza, Erin Hill, and Richard’s wife Molly O’Mara, who in truth is more likely the inspiration for the show, as she is in fact a rocker with a couple of kids. We performed our staged reading at the Cherry Lane Theatre in early Fall, 2008. All the other four ladies had better things to do after the reading except for me. I went on to work with the four beautiful ladies who’ve been in the cast ever since. Together we won Outstanding Musical at the NY International Fringe, 2009, were in the Encore Series at Actor’s Playhouse, have performed at Oneonta’s Fearless Theatre Series, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, were asked to perform as part of the Fringe’s 15 most beloved plays of their 15 year history in 2011, and just completed a 3 week run at the Barrow Group Theatre in April 2012 where we were extremely well reviewed and received commitments from 3 investors and a Tony winning producer. So, we’ll see where all this leads, I’ll have more to add here soon I’m sure. Meanwhile, cast bios and MoM press, can be found at this link:
